From gross to net:
what is deducted

The gross salary is the amount stated in your contract. To reach the net salary, employee social contributions are deducted: basic and supplementary pension, CSG/CRDS, and health top-up cover. For a non-executive this is around 22% of the gross; an executive (cadre) contributes a little more (APEC, tier 2 above the ceiling).

The figure shown is the net payable before income tax. Since 2019, income tax in France is withheld at source: enter your rate to also see your net after tax, the amount actually credited to your account.

your questions

How do you convert a gross salary to net in France?

The net is the gross minus employee social contributions (pension, CSG/CRDS, health top-up cover…). For a non-executive they are around 22% of the gross; a little more for an executive. The calculator applies the 2026 rates and shows the net immediately.

What percentage is net of gross in France?

Generally, the net before income tax is around 78% of the gross for a non-executive and 75–77% for an executive (who contributes slightly more). The exact rate depends on the salary level and the health top-up cover.

Is income tax included in the French net salary?

The displayed net is the net payable before income tax. Since 2019, income tax is withheld at source: enter your personal withholding rate to also see your net after tax — the amount actually paid to you.

Is the net different for an executive (cadre) and a non-executive?

Yes: for the same gross, an executive receives a slightly lower net due to APEC and, above the social-security ceiling, the tier-2 supplementary pension and the CET. The gap stays moderate.
